So, you want to set up a website. Your first and foremost decision is to chose between buying a web server and all the supporting materials along with a network technician to run it for you, or to find a company whose business is to run websites and pay them a monthly fee to host your website on their equipment. This question, at least is a no-brainer: unless you are a big company going online for the first time (almost unheard of these kinds of days), you can not afford the capital investment to set up your own web server infrastructure. So you chose to rent server space of a web hosting company. Simple, right?

Not really. Once you begin shopping around for web hosting services, they have several different opportunities to choose from. One of the mostly big decisions to make is if you want shared or reseller web hosting. But how exactly is the difference?

In a nutshell, the change is scale. In shared hosting, you rent server space for a single website with a single domain name. You would pay a separate monthly fee for every additional website you set up. With reseller hosting, you rent a large amount of server space, divide it up among as a multitude of websites as you need, and then have the opportunity to resell the left during server space to other people to set up websites-essentially making you a hosting subcontractor. So which option should you choose? There are advantages and disadvantages to both, and we’ll examine each below.

The primary advantages of shared web hosting is overly it is simple, cheap, and efficient on a small scale. For a customized or small economy website, right now is all you would need. You get one website and one domain name, often with the opportunity to set up sub-domains for the different parts of your website. First, you are not clearly renting space on their web server equipment, you were renting their support. It is the responsibility of your hosting provider to carry on your website slowly out there and running smoothly, and provide you with any technical substantiation you is able to need-making this one less issue, you own to worry about when running your own business. Second, shared web hosting is five to twenty times cheaper than reseller hosting, with prices ranging as low as $5 per month, or even free.

There are drawbacks to free hosting sites, however. The number one one is reliability. As you are not a paying customer, if the site goes down, all you can do is wait. You have no contract guaranteeing you a set response minute for internet outages. Free hosting is great for a tailored website, but if you’re running a small business at which your website needs to be available 24/7/365 and you need quick, reliable support for any and technical problems, next you will unquestionably want to go with a dished out host. The costs fluctuate depending on how big your web site is, and how much web money you anticipate. The web hosting organization Hostgator, for example, offers 3 shared hosting packages varying between $4.95 and $12.95 a month. Finally, if you want to set up an extra website, you have to buy another shared web hosting plan, and your monthly expenses suffer just now doubled.

The main advantages of reseller hosting is flexibility and economies of scale. If you are running a fast-growing company, or are an entrepreneur running a good amount of businesses, then the cost of multiple shared accounts every month can quickly add up. With reseller web hosting, you can set up as many websites as you need, and reallocate resources among them as they gain over time. Of course, you can rent out or resell and left within the duration of space to a larger amount of homeowners or small businesses to run their websites. If you juggle the finances well, reseller can be much low&wshyp;priced on a significant scale than shared web hosting.

There are, however, two main drawbacks to reseller hosting. The first is expense. While Hostgator provides shared web hosting for prices between $5 and $13 a month, the reseller offerings differ between $25 and $100 a month, depending on size and traffic. Sure, some of the present expense may be offset by reselling your unused web space to others, but that is never a sure thing. What if you suffer trouble coming across customers? There is a good chance that in any looking at month, you will have a few hosting space you are not using, but still sending in for.

The minute problem is that, as a hosting subcontractor, you are now responsible for maintaining support to all the people you resold web hosting space to-except that you actually undergo very little power within the duration of such technical problems. Although you often own some limited administrative functionality, all you can do for extensive technical problems fancy an internet outage is pass the information on to your web hosting provider. Once your customers realize you are essentially just a near-powerless middleman, they may lose perception in you and switch to a different web hosting provider. It doesn’t take much to ruin your brand name, and once that happens, your monthly reseller web hosting worth will growth and you lose customers to offset people monthly costs.

Or doesn't he? Does he just do it to get brownie points for his karma? But then how do big charity organizations make their money, who pays them?
And wouldn't the people loose many because they have to spend the money to rent all the game tables?

In case the user is the owner of several websites, then multiple domain hosting is surely going to benefit him/her in reducing hosting costs. The benefit of multiple hosting is that it allows user to host more than one website on a single hosting</a> account. Thus one can have several website at a cost of one.

In general users instead of purchasing a website purchases a hosting account. There are cases where hosting account can only be used to host a single domain and hence a single website while in other cases the account can be used to host multiple domains and hence multiple websites.

As with everything there are pros and cons in case of hosting several domains on a single hosting account.

Pros:

Talking about advantages the first and fore most advantage is surely cost. It is really cost effective to select an account offering multiple domain hosting as here in this case user gets benefits of many websites at cost of just one. It is quite cheaper way of hosting multiple websites instead of purchasing a hosting account for individual website. Example just consider a hosting provider offering a simple hosting package for mere cost of 70 per annum and U.K. domains for just 2.00 per annum. Thus now for hosting four websites using separate accounts the cost will be 70 *4 + 4*2 i.e. 288 per annum. And now with a single account and multiple domains the cost would be 70 + 2.0 *4 which comes to around 78 per annum. Thus the saving is clearly of 210 per annum.

Cons:

After advantages we are coming on the bad side. The biggest drawback is that traffic for each site is usually counted together against the single hosting account and if ones websites are getting popular then one has to expand bandwidth as well as disk space limits. Not only that the user will find that the log files that are provided to him/her, now allow him/her to distinguish between the domains as all the traffic is counted against a single domain only.

If we talk about the hosting account it has a single password and hence the user can after logging once can administer each domain personally. Thus each and every domain should belong to the user.

Now a very important question arises that who needs multiple domain hosting? The answer is quite simple, anyone who is in need of multiple websites with their own individual domain name different from others will consider this type of hosting account.

If one is just intending to host a single domain or website then he/she should not discard the idea rather there are cases where it costs usually less in comparison to single domain hosting solutions. As non-a-days reselling of mini websites and website is getting popular day by day, there are several hosting companies specializing solely in providing multiple domain hosting and in addition offering good amount of discount depending up on the number of domains one is intending to host.

There are several multiple domain hosting providers having the caliber to significantly lower down ones hosting costs, however in case of selecting any hosting provider one needs to be very careful and act wisely. There are several companies available and user should take his/her own time in selecting the best among them.

One should not just go for the cheapest rather should go for the one, which is best.

Is WordPress Goldmine an unconventional SCAM? It’s perhaps one of the weirdest sales pages I have ever seen in the world of Internet Marketing. The sales page has the following headline…

“This is No Coventional Sales Page Because This is No Conventional Product”

Then, followed by a 7 minutes video telling you WHAT exactly you’re going to get inside the WordPress Goldmine package, an unconventional way of accessing and downloading the package after your purchase, and a couple of testimonials.

In the Internet Marketing world, normally you’ll see loads of HYPE and outrageous claims in the sales letters but you won’t find any of this in WP Goldmine’s sales page. That’s why it catched my attention.

Usually, I don’t pay much attention to WordPress guides. This is because I’m very familiar with WP and I find many information related to WP can easily be obtained for free (you just need to spend a little time searching the web).

Anyway, since it’s such an unconventional sales page and has a 60-day 100% money back guarantee, I got to give it a try and see what is it all about. So I bought WordPress Goldmine and here is my honest review.

WordPress Goldmine is written by Mark Thompson. The main guide is 128 pages long and divided into 5 parts. For those who are familiar with WP can skip or just skim through part 1 as it’s very basic. It shows you how to install WP, change the default settings, change the permalink structure (for SEO friendly purposes), set up the ping list, install new theme, install essential plugins, etc. Nothing is new to me in part 1.

In part 2, it discusses about CONTENT or what and how to add the right content. Essentially, it discusses about prewritten PLR articles and write-your-own articles. No matter where you get your content, it advises us to make our content UNIQUE. Because unique content is the linchpin for getting free organic traffic from the search engines.

Again, nothing is new for me so far. However, there is one thing that’s new to me in part 2, that’s a UAW WordPress Plugins that allows you to get unique content to your blog on auto pilot. I personnaly have NOT try this plugins so I can’t comment too much on this. And, I don’t think I want to try it in my existing blog. If I were to try it later, I would try it on a NEW blog as I don’t trust anything that sounds too good to be true.

Part 3 – Monetization. This is where WordPress Goldmine really shines. This is where it shows its real muscles. You’ll learn the various ways of monetizing or making money with your WordPress blog. The author provides indepth information on how he made $15,000 through just ONE blog post. You not only will see one of his LIVE blogs but he also shows you how you can follow his plan and set up similar blogs.

In my humble opinion, part 3 is perhaps the section that offers you most value for money! Even if you’re a very experienced WP user, I’ll guarantee that you’ll pick up something new here.

BUT, it gets better! In part 4, you’ll learn the author’s secret Traffic Generation System, how he gets organic traffic for FREE (no PPC ad costs, no buying traffic). You’ll also receive an easy to follow diagram that shows you all the steps and sites the author uses to generate free traffic to his blogs. If you follow and implement the WordPress Goldmine’s traffic generation system, the potential result for your site is immense.

I really thought that the guide should have concluded after part 4 but it doesn’t. It the final section (part 5), it shows you the advanced techniques the author uses to promote his blogs. However, the author strongly urges us to have created at least two blogs and apply all the methods taught in the previous sections before trying to learn the advance methods.

I agree! If you read WordPress Goldmine, you should master the basics first and then come back and tackle the advanced stuffs. Trust me on this, it will be a lot more effective if you can master the methods in previous sections first before moving on to part 5.

Last But Not Least

Besides the main guide, you’ll also receive a bonus package that consists of a software called “WordPress Secure Pro” to protect your blogs from unauthorised users and a set of videos (20 of them) showing you all the tricks on how to optimize your WordPress for SEO purposes.

Closing Comments:

WordPress Goldmine is a quality product that delivers a lot of value, unlike many other IM products that are over-promising and under-delivering. If one of your online business goals is to make money using WordPress blogs, then this product is worth considering.

Hope you find this review informative.

I already utilize tags, but I still only got about 89 views in two weeks.

Thanks in advance–serious answers only, please!

Let us start by saying that there are only a hand full of Internet Marketers who know how to use
wordpress tags the way they should be used. Are you one of those? Or are you the 99% who
thinks the search engines can read your mind?

Here’s the deal someone decides they want to make money online. They read one if any ebook
to guide them to do this. However instead of them reading the ebook they skim over it and pick
up bits and pieces of knowledge. So when they read this telling them that article marketing is
the way to make money online. While this may be true they stop there and don’t finish reading
the ebook.

Because they didn’t finish reading the ebook they missed the part about how to use keywords or
wordpress tags properly. This is a big deal because keywords or wordpress tags are used when
indexing your articles with search engines. So if you want to get your article indexed by the search
engines then you need to use the proper keywords or wordpress tags.

If you have an article about Affiliate Marketing and you use keywords or wordpress tags that don’t even
show up in that article then the search engines will put that article at the bottom of the pile. It don’t
matter what your article is about. If you use keywords or tags that don’t show up in the article you want
get good placement from the search engines. Oh it does get worse then that if your keyword you chose
only shows up one time then your chances of that article finding top position is ZERO.

Make sure that what keywords or wordpress tags you use show up at least 5 times in your article. That
is the way you will get better placement for your articles. If ecommerce and Ecommerce is in your article
only use one of those not both the search engines see those the same way now if you had ecommerce
and e-commerce then the search engine sees that as two different keywords. Are you following Me?

This is the part that most people get trapped in. They think search engines can read their minds. If your
article is about keywords and wordpress tags and it mentions search engines that don’t mean your article
is about SEO. So don’t put SEO as a keyword in your article just because your article mentions search
engines. If it don’t have the keyword at least 5 times in your article DON’T USE IT!

Now we will show you the keywords and wordpress tags that should be used in this article we wrote here.
That should give you an idea of how to do the same for yours. The obviouse keywords are “Keywords,
Wordpress Tags, Search Engines, and Article” and we could possibly use ebook as well. That would
make it five times in this whole article.

If you will notice we never used keywords or wordpress tags that never appeared in our article this is the
most common mistake made by new Internet Marketers. If its not in your article then don’t use it.
We hope that this has shown you the proper use in keywords and tags.

You can search blogs all across the internet and find that many new Internet Marketers posting to blogs and look
at the tags and many of the post have tags that don’t show up in the post. That is why this article was written to
help you use keywords and wordpress tags correctly. To read more articles about such topics as above to help
you market your website please visit us at Affiliate Gold RushYou can
also start seeing your blog make first position for your chosen keyword just as we did by using
Auto Content Blog

The one who wants to enter in this web world and desires for a long time survival, then he/she should be familiar with each and every terminology used in this field. If user considers all the important factors before choosing a hosting plan then only he/she will be able to have a successful future in this world .User should not choose any of the plan, rather he/she should opt the best and most suitable one and this can only be made possible by fetching more and more informations and also by studying properly all the requirements. New comers should start from the basics .They should learn the meaning of each and every term used and also in addition those factors that can affect his/her selection.

Web Host

Web host refers to a computer connected to the internet. Web host can also be termed as web server. The computer that is playing the role of the web server needs to be more powerful than normal PCs and the function of this web server is to serve up websites.

The website content of the user will remain will on this computer, so as the people who are surfing on the internet can get a way to access his/her website.

There can be three main categories in which the web host can be classified based on the economic factor and common features:

1. Free Hosts:

The users who are not professional but are making website only as a hobby then for them free hosting can be a good option. In free hosting space, bandwidth and other features provided are very limited. With free web hosting one can not only make his/her website successful but is also suitable for personal websites or for temporary usage. Generally free hosting enforces pop-up, text or banner ads. Reliability, best performance and customer support lacks in case of free hosting as well. When a user registers for a free host then the word free host gets added with the users domain name that gives an adverse effect in the eye of the visitors.

2. Shared Hosts:

The next type of the web hosting to be discussed is shared hosting. This hosting service is used by many of the web sites .This type of hosting service is Suitable for personal, small and medium businesses. This service can be used by paying $1 to $25 per month. The features provided by this service vary from very limited space/bandwidth to semi-dedicated servers. The users host their website by this type of hosting service and it has its own top level domain facility. No doubt that shared web hosting is quite better than free hosting but still it does not provide 100% satisfactory services. In case of shared hosting one server is shared by the number of websites so its performance and availability gets affected. More websites usually means less performance. If less number of websites are hosted by one server then it will be more expensive, but in this case there are more chances of reliability. There are many companies allowing customers to host multiple websites with different domains under a single account.

3. Dedicated Hosts:

The next type of hosting is dedicated hosting. This type of hosting is most reliable hosting. In this type of hosting a full server is dedicated to a single customer. Generally this type of hosting is used by large businesses, professionals and very active websites dealing with thousands of visitors daily. The customers having dedicated hosting can have their total control over the server as well as able to create as many websites as they like. Customers can run their own hosting company on a rented dedicated server. Payment module is mentioned according to specifications and services provided with the server, which varies from $100 up to about $800 dollars per month.

4. Collocated Hosts:

Now the other type of hosting service to be discussed is collocated hosting. This service is very much similar to dedicated hosting. The difference between collocated hosting and dedicated hosting is that in collocated hosting the customer owns the server hardware instead of renting it. In this service the server will be placed in providers data center. This service is more expensive than dedicated hosting.

5. Reseller Hosts:

In reseller hosting the providers offers web server storage to their customers, and resells the web server storage to them. Generally providers offer resellers a discount price.

6. Other Hosts:

Including the above type of hosts there are also many other hosts such as email hosts, media hosts, data hosts, etc but these hosts will not be discussed in this article.

Domain Name

Domain name is the name which shows the place where ones website is located. The actual address of the website is a set of numbers. Each and every web server has its own unique address. Domain name indicates the real addresses of every websites. One can easily remember the domain name of any of the website. Remembering domain name is easier than recalling the IP addresses.

Space / Storage

Space is one of the services provided by the web host. It plays a very important role in the website development. It happens many times that the customer requires more space but the host fails to provide it, so customer should be very careful while choosing the web host. Storage is the amount of web servers disk space available for customers website files, images and databases. Space can be according to the requirement; it can be as small as 5MB in some free hosts and as big as 300GB for some dedicated servers. Earlier prices of the space were very high but prices reduced significantly during the last few years. The hosting plans offering 3GB of space for less than $10 a month can be easily available.

Bandwidth

Bandwidth can be defined as the amount of data transferred from web server to clients internet browsers. When ever a person outlook a page the data is transmitted from the server to that person PC. If any one is having audio, video and images in his/her website then the bandwidth consumed is more in comparison of the website having only text contents. The bandwidth available in free hosting can be as low as 100MB per month where as in some dedicated servers the bandwidth available is as high as 2000GB a month. The customers who dont want to pay more for bandwidth can easily find hosting plans offering 75GB of monthly data transfer for less than $10.

Server Type

Generally server means the operating system than runs the web server. Some common types are Windows, Linux and UNIX. Server type refers the server side scripting and database types. The difference between Windows server and Linux/UNIX is that Windows runs ASP and ASP.NET with Access or SQL Server databases where as Linux/UNIX servers usually runs CGI, PHP or JSP with MySQL or Oracle databases. The other difference is that Windows servers are more expensive than Linux/UNIX servers.

Databases

As server type is discussed earlier also, we are able to know that there are different types of databases available. The mostly used is MySQL as it is open source GPL (free) software and can serve a lot of online applications requirements such as forums, content management, mailing lists, etc. MySQL, rather its features are limited. MySQL is sufficient for small concern but it is not powerful for the complicated large business sites. Large business requires more powerful databases such as Oracle or SQL Server.

.

Server Side Scripting

Usually the new comers prefer to use PHP as server side scripting. The reason behind this is that there are hundreds of open source (GPL) PHP scripts that are able to fulfill the webmasters requirements. However PHP also has some limitations in features required by advanced websites same as in the case of MySQL, due to this limitation some professional web developers prefer to use ASP.NET or JSP. Some other developers still prefer to use Cold Fusion, CGI, ASP or PERL.

Email

Now the next very important aspect to be talked about is Email. At present no one can move further in this computer world with having his/her Email account. The one who is planning to do any kind of activity through computer such as to run a business or to provide any kind of service, then the first thing he/she need to do is to open an Email account. There are many hosting plans that include the feature of having some email accounts with customers domain. The availability of number and size of email accounts totally depends on the hosting plan one opted. Generally this feature is not included in free hosting. Small plans provide only about 10 accounts where as big plans do not have the limited number. Usually those email accounts are web based and accessible through POP3 clients as well.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

The other service is FTP. File Transfer Protocol is a usual way of transferring files across the Internet. Most of the webmasters used to upload and download their websites contents through FTP. The process of uploading or downloading is performed by using FTP client software. Webmasters require FTP username and password so as to access their web server. There are any hosts who use to provide more than one FTP account to their customers as per their requirement. Rather FTP is unspecified; it is not advisable as per the security reasons.

Control Panel

Control panel is the service available by many of the web hosting companies to their customers. It is a web based application that helps in managing websites. Some important functions performed by the control panel are that it used to manage email accounts, providing statistics, managing FTP accounts, managing domains and sub-domains and managing databases. The control panel application that is mostly used by the user is cPanel. There are many companies who use to develop their own control panel application.

Uptime

Now after having all the services, the thing of concern which remains is how the user keeps his/her website uptime most of the time. If anyone is having a website with excellent features but it remains down most of the time it will be of no use, as when ever the visitors visit his/her website and found it down then later on they will think twice before visiting it. In result he/she will suffer the loss of visitors. Uptime is very important feature of web hosts and that is usually measured in percentage. If a server remains down near about 30 minutes a day will have an uptime percentage of about 99.98%, which is acceptable for most small to medium business websites. If any of the business website is not having at least this percentage of uptime then that website is not suitable for a business website. Mission critical sites cannot tolerate frequent outages, thus they may use web monitoring services to notify web administrators immediately when an outage happens.

Price

Finally the factor left is price. In this option also there is a great variability found like for example customer is having option to choose between the prices ranging from 0 to $1000 per month. For most personal, small and medium websites the total amount of cost involved is just $15 per month. Thus its not at all advisable for business website owners to select very cheap plans let say less than $5 because this price can lead to huge cost indirectly afterwards.

Web hosting may be defined as renting space on a web server in its simplest form. One should keep in mind that a website is a collection of files linked together by HTML code to display text and graphics on a computer. However website is not complete here until and unless it is displayed on the net. To make it visible for the world it has to be housed on a computer somewhere that has access to the Internet. This is not possible by just a computer rather special device is required termed as web server. A web server may be defined as a computer set up with special software that allows it to receive requests from the internet for the website files it has stored on it and to send those files out over the internet so that the requesting computer can display them.

Web server in addition to making site visible performs several other functions as well like it provides the ability to create email addresses based on ones domain name and even helps in sending and receiving emails with them. There are several types of software installed on the web server that allows ones website to run programs, create and manage databases, display video, etc. One must note that almost any type of computer can function as a web server, but it’s the software that’s on it that makes it a server.

When one goes buying a web hosting, the monthly fees to be paid includes cost for maintenance and upgrading of the server’s hardware and software, the cost of keeping it online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in a secure data center with a fast and powerful internet connection, and cost of professional proving these services. It is surprising to know that it is possible to turn ones home or office computer into a web server if one really desires, but it is just not economical. Therefore it is better to outsource it. There are several kinds of web hosting available which are discussed below:

Kinds of web hosting:

Shared Hosting Through a shared server one can save a high amount. If one talks about the drawbacks then Spamming and blacklisting from different search engines are the key problems. Such problems arise due to the reason that several sites are assign to one particular IP address. One should demand for a separate IP address for his/her website (on additional monthly charges) to secure the user from such problems.

Dedicated Hosting Dedicated servers are best for big, highly trafficked websites, which will require large amounts of server resources to run. One of the downsides to shared hosting is that the servers resources are divided across all the sites its hosting and answering page requests for. If you are in a dedicated environment you can better monitor your server resources. The downside is that dedicated servers will run you generally $50 per month or more. Shared hosting can be purchased for as little as 5$ a month. Most small or medium sized businesses will have neither the website size or bandwidth requirements to make dedicated servers cost effective.

Server Co-Location – If one wants to have full control over every aspect of his/her web server, he/she might very well choose to buy one and maintain it himself/herself if he/she is having sufficient knowledge. Still there are possibilities that one is not having enough resources to keep his/her server completely safe from power outages, roof leaks, thieves, unwary employees and other problems and in addition it is not possible for him/her to keep it on the internet on a fast, high-bandwidth connection through out. Thus he/she needs a data center to provide those services for him/her.

Co-location is the center providing facilities like physical security on rental, continuous electrical power and a fast, reliable Internet connection for a server that one owns. However, the data center is not responsible for any of the hardware or software maintenance of a co-located server, rather user his/her self. Thus it is a cheaper alternative to dedicated hosting if one is having the necessary expertise and time to run a web server by own.

There are several web hosts offering UNIX hosting and Windows hosting.

UNIX Hosting

There are several web servers in the world running mostly on UNIX. UNIX is an operating system originally developed for servers and networking. Till now many different versions of UNIX have been written by programmers around the world under the open-source protocol, which means that the code for the operating system is openly available so as to enable programmers to customize and make improvements when and where necessary. The two most popular forms of UNIX are Linux and BSD that comes in several varieties, like Red Hat Linux, Debian, SuSE, and FreeBSD. The best part of UNIX is most of above mentioned versions can be obtained free of cost, making UNIX hosting cheaper for a web host in comparison to other operating systems. Other plus points of UNIX are that UNIX hosting platforms are generally considered to be stable, secure, powerful and fast. That is the reason why most web programming applications can be performed by software that is available for a UNIX platform.

Windows Hosting

Another very popular operating system developed by Microsoft is Windows operating system, Windows Server 2003. Like every thing useful it is having price and can be obtained by purchasing a license, which in turn increases the cost of operation for the web host and usually results in higher hosting prices. This is considered a negative point as compared to UNIX. Plus points of Windows include it is mainly user friendly however it is generally considered to be less powerful and secure than UNIX for operating in a network environment. There are several scripting languages like ASP, ASP.NET, and Cold Fusion, which will only run on a Windows server, as will the Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Access database programs. Thus the above are some of the most popular scripts for certain web programming applications, and if one is thinking of using them while building his/her site, he/she will first definitely need to find a Windows host.

Before searching for a web host, it is essential to know some important terms used in hosting. They are discussed as under:

Storage or Disk space As ones website is a collection of files being offered on the Internet for viewing, it is necessary for storing them somewhere for retrieval and take up space. For each and every web server there is a limited amount of hard disk memory, which is divided up and offered to hosting customers. Different package levels are there, so as to enable to pay more for more space and vice versa divide specifically that space up. If ones website expands its space then the user needs to buy extra space from the web host.

Bandwidth or Data Transfer One of the crucial parts to verify is bandwidth. There are several sites, which loose their host due to excessive downloads causing budget going beyond their expectations. Occasionally, host even charges in hundreds of dollars for the additional bandwidth. One should confirm about this before dealing with any of the host. Usually, ideal-hosting providers deliver initial bandwidth of 25 to 50 GB to the users.

Uptime It is a universal truth that if one talks about perfect web servers then they are the one, which would be up, and running and offering web pages to the world round the clock, whole year. But, it is also true that web servers are mere computers, and like any other computer, they may fail or needs repairing or updating. Often web hosts gives 99% uptime guarantee, and if they fail they refund a certain portion of users money depending on the amount of excess downtime they experienced.

Traffic Statistics By traffic statistics we mean those programs that track visitors to ones website. These programs are capable of telling how many times a user visited one site, how many visitors were unique and how many came back more than once, which pages were most popular, from where the visitors came to ones site, what search terms they used in the search engines etc. In addition they offer several types of information which are useful for marketing ones website to a target audience. There are several web hosts offering some sort of traffic statistics software with their hosting packages.

CGI Scripts There are several web hosts offering a variety of free CGI scripts with their packages. CGI Scripts are the things like hit counters, guest books, form mail programs, message boards, and other programs that enable one website to perform commonly desired functions. Most CGI scripts are written in common programming languages like Perl, PHP or ASP.

Thus one should take care and keep all the above points in mind while selecting a web host.

In case you havent heard yet, theres a worm thats working its way around old and unpatched versions of Wordpress. Already it has infected some, including sites that belong to tech celebrities Robert Scoble and Andy Ihnatko.

According to the Wordpress Blog, this worm is a clever one: Iit registers a user, uses a security bug (fixed earlier in the year) to allow evaluated code to be executed through the permalink structure, makes itself an admin, then uses JavaScript to hide itself when you look at users page, attempts to clean up after itself, then goes quiet so you never notice while it inserts hidden spam and malware into your old posts.

Everyone who owns or manages a Wordpress site is advised to upgrade to the latest version 2.8.4 since this, as well as the one before that, is immune to the worm.

How do you know you current version? Versions 2.7 and later has a nag notice on the dashboard that tells you to upgrade. If you dont see that nag notice, then you are using an even older version of Wordpress. Upgrade to the latest version here.

This recent incident raised the question of whether Wordpress is a secure program. Technically, any software that is not not updated regularly is vulnerable to hack attacks. So its a matter of getting your site up-to-date as soon as the latest version becomes available.

I would also recommend conducting regular backups to keep your data safe and secure.

You might think that installing a few WordPress security plugins does the entire job of protecting your site. Security plugins can help make your site safer (i.e. database backups, login lockouts). Most people don’t realize that there’s much more involved in order to protect a WordPress blog.

WordPress is an application powered by PHP and MySQL. Many high-traffic websites use MySQL and PHP for large-volume data storage. If you are a WordPress user, anytime you create a post or page, the information gets stored on your database. Even though there are WordPress plugins out there that can help backup your database in case of disaster, you always want to take all necessary precautions to prevent your site from being hacked.

WordPress developers release a security update when a known vulnerability needs to be addressed, but it’s impossible to seal every loophole. In the world of cyber crime, someone will always find a way around it — it’s inevitable. Even with the addition of plugins being installed to “beef up” your security, your WordPress site is still at risk. You can, for example, protect your site from brute force password attacks for your WP admin area. However, this does not protect your database nor does it prevent unwanted visitors from entering your server via FTP. Remember, when it comes to securing your WordPress site, you have to make sure you cover all angles.

Every time a user installs WordPress, it will always install the default folders and directories. Since many people don’t bother configuring the back-end, they don’t realize that they end up leaving the doors wide open, making them vulnerable for a malicious attack.

With that said, it’s important to make sure that you secure all areas of your website, including your server, database, logins, comments, files/directories, and wp-admin. If you’re looking for help in securing your blog or website or would like a WordPress security audit, let us know. Just remember, installing a few security plugins is only half the battle.
